Go green
Are you looking for ways you could help the environment when making food choices? This month's top tips will help you to be more environmentally friendly.
Food wastage is bad for the environment so try not to buy too much at once, just buy what you know you will need.
If you do have food that needs to be thrown away why not compost it rather than put in your dustbin?
Consider the miles your food has travelled to get to your home. Look at buying locally grown or sourced products.
You could buy your fish from sustainable sources. The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) provides assurance that the fish has come from a well-managed fishery. Look out for the MSC logo when buying fish.
Buy fruit and vegetables that are in season as they are more likely to have been grown naturally rather than heated during production or transported a long way.
Unprocessed or lightly processed food and drink will have used less energy in production.
Drinking tap water is better for the environment than bottled water as it uses 300 times less energy to produce it.
Next time you go shopping why don't you take your child and involve them in choosing the right food? You can discuss the information on this website beforehand so you and your child know what to look out for.
