As the weather is getting warmer lots of people start cooking BBQs. A lot of care should be taken when cooking outdoors. It is harder to keep food hot or cold when outside and if it isn’t done properly it can lead to food poisoning. Use the tips below to ensure you stay safe when cooking this summer.
- Make sure the BBQ is hot before you put food on to cook. It should be glowing red.
- Keep meat in a cool place until your start cooking.
- Turn the food over regularly when you are cooking so it doesn’t get burnt or only cook on one side.
- Make sure all the food is cooked right through. Check the flesh isn’t pink before you eat it.
- Keep cooked and raw foods separate and make sure you wash your hands in between touching them.
- Cover food when you are not eating it to protect it from insects like flies.
