Each month we are going to teach you a new cooking skill so keep coming back to this page to learn more and improve in the kitchen. We want your children to draw a cartoon of a scene in the kitchen and send them to us. We will display all the best ones in our gallery so why not start discussing ideas with your child? Download the activity sheet on this page and then send your completed Cartoons to My Cookery Club at the address on the sheet.

How to make good gravy?
The traditional roast dinner is one of our favourite meals. You can’t beat it. Especially when it has delicious hot gravy poured over the top. Do you know how to make real gravy?
1. After cooking the meat pour the juices and fat from the roasting tin into a separate tin that will go on the hob. Or you can use the roasting tin when you have removed the meat. You will need a few tablespoons of the juices.
2. Heat this gently until it is bubbling.
3. Next using a wooden spoon stir in 1 tablespoon of plain flour for each 225ml liquid that you will use. Cook the flour and stir for 1 minute,
4. Be careful not to let the mixture burn.
5. Gradually add stock or water and keep stirring to avoid getting lumps.
6. Finally season to taste, then strain and serve hot.
Download the activity sheet and then your child can draw a cartoon of a scene in the kitchen. It could be something they have seen happen or they can use their imagination and create their own.
